Sonja B. Favors, P.E., is the Chief of the Industrial Hazardous Waste Branch at the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). With 28 years of experience in environmental management across both industrial and governmental sectors, she focuses on regulatory affairs. Ms. Favors serves as an Environmental Justice coordinator within the Department. She works closely with Environmental Justice coordinators and regularly engages in community events, environmental conferences, workshops, and other speaking opportunities to promote community engagement with the Department. In 2015, while preparing to host a professional development workshop for an engineering conference God gave her vision to share what she had with women of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. And from that moment of reflection and her faith in God’s instruction, Pumps, Pearls, and Purpose was created. As a mother of five adult children and a “Glamma” and “Oma” to two beautiful grandchildren and grandnieces, she has always been dedicated to creating a lasting legacy for every individual or place she encounters. So she feels fulfilled with this endeavor. Ms. Favors earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tuskegee University and an M.B.A. from Auburn University Montgomery. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Alabama. She is an active member of her community in several ways. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., the National Society of Black Engineers, Mizpah Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and a few other professional boards and organizations.
